Journal Archive

Welcome to the inside of my head!!!! My journal is a place where I let my thoughts off their leash and they get to run free. Unafraid of what others might think, feel, or say. Here I will be sharing with you everything that is important to me. That could be anything from the state of our beloved planet to my new favorite nail polish. Do your thoughts have a playground where they can let loose and be free? I invite you to "gift" yourself and your thoughts by keeping a journal. You never know what new and fun things you might find in there.Tomiko
I miss being a little kid. I miss watching cartoons on Saturday morning, playing hide-n-seek, playing with my Barbie dolls, skipping down the street, rollerskating, eating bags and bags of sunflower seeds, candy picnics, jumping double-dutch, and sitting on the stoop of my building with my friends for hours talking about nothing.
Why is it that when we become adults, we don't allow ourselves playtime? I mean serious, "leave your worries at the door, not a care in the world" kind of playtime. No rules. No agenda. No timeframe. Just playtime.
I have attempted to incorporate playtime into my adult life. I bought a pair of old-school rollerskates a few years ago (black with red shoestrings and red pompoms) and have only used them once. I don't even know where they are. I bought blank canvases and paint last year and after one "failed" attempt, I put all of my painting supplies away in my garage. I even bought clothesline rope so I could show off my double-dutch skills, but I haven't taken the time to find people to play with me. I have "half-assed" on my commitment to playtime.
If I had more playtime in my life, life would be that much happier. After a day of running around doing errands, it would be great to come home and play a game of jacks (I was the champion in 4th grade). Or instead of doing 6 loads of laundry on a Saturday morning, I could break out my rollerskates and enjoy this southern California weather. But no!!! I'm an adult and I have to always put my responsibilities first. Don't I???
Guess what? After I finish folding the 6 loads of laundry I just did, I am going to play. I think I'll break out my jacks and see if I'm still 4th grade champion material. : )
Why are you still reading this? Get out there and play!

I would LOVE to join you for some Double Dutch! But we need two things: another person who is not "double handed" and an oxygen tank. Thanks for reminding us to find the inner child in ourselves...

sandy, you're funny. yes, being double-handed is a double-dutch killer!!! let's do it. i have the rope. we need to find someone else to play with us. anybody else game????

LOL. I'm game, so long as I'm not jumping. The jumping gene skipped me, but I can turn w/the best of 'em. As far as jacks go, Tomiko, I'm throwing down the gauntlet! There's never been a game I didn't win. :)
If I carry a bag, I almost always have a yo-yo in it. :) Matter of fact, my stepdad just sent me a new wooden one w/a duck's face painted on it. LOL.
Playtime is a great time no matter when it happens. One thing I try to remember is that most things can wait -- the laundry, the dishes, the DMV -- long enough to have a good, giggly jump on the bed.

For Xmas I gave my friend a kazoo, a kaleidescope and a wind up toy...looks like we are on the same path. I say since the weather is getting nice that (not instead of the Co-ed gathering) we invite our folks out to a little romp in the park...how about it?

let's set up a play date ladies!
03/17/2008 14:39:01
Pick the date, give me at least 21 days notice to get a decent airfare (unless y'all coming to NYC), & I'm in!!!
I wonder if my jacks will set off the metal detector...I'd sure hate to have to check them. LOL.

you are welcome to join us. we haven't done this in a few years and i know the goddesses just love it!
hope you can make it. : )
