Once a month, I will feature a woman, historical or modern day, who exemplifies what it means to be an empowered woman in her own unique way. Her story will inspire and guide you as you learn to unearth your own inner Goddess.
Want to share another empowered woman's story? Please submit your Goddess Spotlight nomination by clicking on the link on this page.
Goddess Milly is so inspiring! No matter what she has going on in her life, she always manages to keep it real and keep it moving. This is not to say that she is not affected by life, but she definitely doesn't let "bumps in the road" slow her down too much. I'm thrilled that she is sharing her story and words of wisdom with us! She's also a fellow Bronx girl, so she definitely gets my vote! Tomiko
Congratulations Milly for being our Featured Goddess this month!

1. Name one word that describes you.
Determined
2. What advice would you give to women on how to become empowered?
Believe in yourself and your dreams. Don't be afraid to share them with others because if you don't how can you expect others to cheer you on or send you positive vibes and support you when you're having a bad day.
3. What is the most challenging obstacle you've overcome and how?
Depression has been one of the hardest obstacles I overcome on a constant basis. My partner has helped tremendously in keeping my spirits positive when I'm feeling gloomy and for that I'm eternally grateful. But getting out of bed in the morning when I'd rather curl up in ball under my blanket is the first step I take in overcoming that overwhelming feeling I get when life gets too tough. Followed by reminding myself that life is good and counting my blessings.
4. Name one woman that inspires you and why.
My BFF, Michelle Rivera-Huckeby because whatever she wants, no matter how farfetched it may initially seem, she achieves from raising two gorgeous 10-year old twins to running her own business. She sets her goals high and doesn't give up when sh** hits the fan.
5. What is your motto?
Life is Good!
6. What advice would you give "3 year old you"?
Enjoy laughing ALOUD without feeling embarassed, and play in puddles as much as possible 'cause once you grow up people look at you like you're crazy when you splash in puddles.
7. What does "Empowered" mean to you?
Empowered means walking with my head held high with confidence because I know I'm putting my best foot forward in life and am realizing my dreams. Despite the bricks the Universe throws at me, I KNOW my dreams will come to fruition with a little determination and sweat. If I didn't feel empowered, I would've crawled into dark hole a long time ago.
8. How has being in The Goddess Gathering affected your life?
It's made me realize how many other women have been in similar situations as I have been, and regardless how bleak some days may seem, I can overcome any obstacle and move forward. I've learned to jump over the potholes on my path to success.
9. Share one thing you are hoping to accomplish in your lifetime.
ONLY 1!!!! =) I want to travel to a 3rd World country with either the Peace Corp or another non-for-profit organization and help teach children that they can dream despite their poverty. There is no better feeling than helping a child smile and giving them hope.
10. What are you most proud of yourself about?
I'm proud that I've continued to make time to volunteer on a regular basis and have included my partner in something I truly enjoy. I'm proud that I take the initiative in seeking opportunities to help others despite having the option to stay home or do something for myself. I get a great feeling of accomplishment when I've completed a project and in knowing that I've touched a life. Even if I'm standing in 100 degree weather, the appreciation I get from everyone I encounter is absolutely amazing.

AWW,shucks! Thank you Tomiko for the nomination. I'm absolutely honored to be among a group of such fantabulous women. To be honest this nomination couldn't have come at a better time... was needing a little positive nudge from the Universe this week and this is IT!
Speaking of the Universe as I was reading my answers above I realized when I wrote my answer for question #9 "Share one thing you are hoping to accomplish in your lifetime" I was just putting my thoughts out there for the future. Needless to say, I'm meeting with a Peace Corp rep next tues (10/7) to discuss reapplying. I had been accepted to the Corp in 2002 but the Universe had other plans for me and I didn't leave as planned, but for many many reason I'm ready to try again. So I guess this nomination serves as a reminder that the Universe always gives you a sign towards what direction to go in life. Life IS Good! =)
